Dutch Barges

MAIN CABIN Wessex Narrowboats Dutch style barges are fitted out in much the same way as our high quality narrowboats. Throughout the boat we try to produce as much built–in storage space as possible without creating a claustrophobic atmosphere. We prefer to use light coloured timbers, such as Ash, Oak and Maple to create a light and airy ambient light level. We contrast these timbers with hardwood beads and cappings. The windows that we prefer are the new and innovative ‘S’ type windows from Worcester Marine Windows. These windows have a number of advantages including, concealed fixings, elegant, yet heavy-duty window frames, security options and ease of repair. The main living cabin will usually have a generous glazed roof hatch for added natural light. Cabin floors are finished in solid oak strip planking, vinyl or carpeting.
